it depends on what genre you like though

if you want something really inspirational and you have spare kleenex lying around: - One Litre of Tears
if you want something funny - Hana Kimi or Nobuta Wo Produce
if you like detective type stuff (requiring a bit of thinking) - Tentai Gakuen Q Live Action or Trick

I think Hana Yori Dango was really good.. I recently started the second season and it kind of starts off slow but I like the plot to it. Kinda cliche, but the twists are pretty entertaining...

what is the summary of nobuta wo produce?

Kiritani Shuji is the popular guy who gets along with everyone, from the jerks to the nerds to the just plain weird. The one person Shuji cannot stand is Kusano Akira. To Shuji, Akira is just plain annoying. He laughs, talks and acts funny. Things heat up when a new student comes to school. Her name is Kotani Nobuko, a girl who has no self confidence at all and is content at being made fun of and bullied in school. Shuji and Akira come to an accord that in order to make use of their "youth" they will "produce" Nobuko as the next popular girl. One of the conditions, however, is that nobody should find out that they are working together as a team to make this concept possible. Unveiled here is the story of true friendship between three unlikely candidates who would not have been friends if not given the special circumstances.

[from wiki]

each episode just goes through another mission of making Nobuko popular - and of course there's heaps of themes surrounding friendships

you should check out the NWP thread in this forum

I highly recommend UNFAIR (the drama)
it's a mystery, action police-like drama.
you will get hooked after watching the first few episodes.
the ending is brilliant, and also something you don't expect. Cheesy watch to find out.

I really think it depends what genre of dramas you like to watch...
I try to avoid all the 'recent popular' ones when it comes to these things. So here's my list:

Nodame Cantabile (romance/comedy)
HERO (lawyer/romance?)
Iryu/Team Medical Dragon (medical)
Orange Days (romance/slice of life)
Odoru Daisousasen (police-type)
Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi (mystery/suspense/romance)
Tiger & Dragon (snarky comedy)
Summer Snow (romance)
Love Revolution (romance)
Remote (police/mystery)
Haken no Hinkaku (business/comedy)
Great Teacher Onizuka (school)
LIFE (school bullying)
PRIDE (romance/hockey)
Karei-naru Ichizoku (family struggle)
Trick (super snarky comedy)

Zettai Kareshi, the drama is good.
I'm not a fan of the manga, I couldn't get into it.
I somehow like the drama more.

One of the main guys is "Nanba" from Hana Kimi. XD

I haven't watched a lot of japanese dramas. But the best I've watched is Code Blue. It's so touching and real. I cried most of the episodes.

HELLO !!!
 I LIKE THE FF ;

-TATA HITOTSU NO KOI (This proves simple embrace is fare more romantic than heated kissing scene/the whole series represents good values for teenagers in love)
-NODAME CANTABILE (PERFECT LIVE ACTION ANIME DERIVEN TV SERIES/its as if you're watching the MANGA PAGES unfold in your eyes and in LIVE action!!!)

-RONDO (collaboration w/korean tv/ although not as appreciated but i really like it/plus love the OST)

-GOKUSEN1 (HILARIOUS!!!)
-1POUND GOSPEL (SWEET AND HILARIOUS)

i'll see if any other series i've watch compare to this

I'm sorry but i take back what i said about Hana Yori Dango. I liked it a lot but since then i have watched so many j-dramas that HYD got kicked to the background. First and foremost, Yukan Club rocks. period. loved everything and absolutely everything. Currently Kami no Shizuku (with Kamenashi Kazuya) and Rescue (with Nakamaru Yuichi) just started so, I might have to update this in 2 months. But as of now, YUKAN CLUB is the best.
